The Climb

Description

The sun was starting to set as Ekon made his way further into the old Amusement Park, one destination in mind. During his time in the 'Pit' he had heard several dogs whisper about three packs of dogs that roamed the area and how they where skilled, merciless fighters that where always at war with each other. This had caught the Doberman's interest, especially hearing how the third pack was a new, rising one. It was still in it's infancy stages, meaning it could change into anything. The other packs where old, and neither fit him. One was lead by an ex police dog. There was no way he would follow her, just to avenge her fallen human master. The other pack was to much family oriented, and although he had a feeling he would enjoy that pack leader greatly, Ekon wasn't about to jump in to save another dog that was suppose to be 'family' when he didn't even know that said dog.

No, he would go with the third choice. But that leaves to question, why was he wandering around in the Amusement Park? Well having ran into a stray that knew a lot about the packs, Ekon was able to get some nice information out of the mutt, after a bit of rough persuasion. Apparently to get into the pack, you had to climb up the old run down roller coaster and retrieve whatever it was from a cart. The dog said it was at the highest point of the structure.

So that was his destination as he moved through the run down ruins of a once popular human place. Up ahead he saw the figures of the wooden structure, like hills without centers rising up in the darkening sky. The moon was already rising, stars slowly coming out as he got to the base of one of those hills. He would have to climb it to get to the top.

Green eyes looked up at the tops of the hills, trying to spot the outline of some carts. After finding one, he quickly began trying to climb up the boards, which creaked and groaned with each movement. The Doberman's claws slid against the wood, unable to get a good grasp on it. A flashback of the time he tried to scale out of the pit ran through his head, causing him to pull his lip back in disgust. That wasn't happening again, no never.

He ran his paw over the wood until he found small spacing between each of them, and began locking his claws there, gradually working his way up higher and higher onto the unstable surface. After an hour and a half of climbing, and almost falling because of wood giving way, Ekon found himself at the top of a hill, staring at the cart. It was filled with sticks, at the end of each of them, small folds of fabric that blew in the wind. As Ekon lifted his hind leg up from the edge of the wooden structure, he moved forward and grabbed a stick quickly, the wood groaning when he leaned forward.

Now the only thing left to do was to figure a way down.

After several frustrating hours, and splinters later, Ekon finally made it back to the ground. The next step for him was to find wherever the hell he was suppose to go to next. Not wanting to walk around the whole park he threw back his head an let out his long, deep howl. He continued to do this until the sound of fast passed paw steps sounded in the distance. He didn't waste time going into details about why he was here. Instead holding up the flag and giving them a cold, annoyed look.

"I climbed that bloody thing, got this flag, now take me to where I'm suppose to go now."

Soon he found himself walking into an run down theater. Walking up stage the Doberman placed the flag, which he later discovered was a bandana tied to a stick, in front of a raggedy looking dog. What was his name? The stray from before had told him.....Larva? Marka? Marvo? He didn't even try to say the dog's name, knowing he would probably get it wrong.

The ragged dog started talking, and Ekon had to restrain himself from rolling his eyes when the other mentioned family and acceptance. 'Blast it all, I guess their all oriented on this whole 'family' business....nothing I can do now, though their not getting close to me that easily.' He thought to himself, mentally smiling. 'Show me how strong you are old dog, how strong this pack it. Then we'll see if you have my loyalty.'

When they brought out the prong, to brand him, Ekon's lip twitched in disgust. The act was to much like the humans. Green eyes remained unblinking and the metal was pressed on his shoulder, burning and biting at his fur, then skin. The only sign that he was in pain, was the small pulse in his jaw as he clamped is shut. There was no way he was going to show weakness in front of all these dogs, no way at all. As the prong was removed, the sudden change in temperature made the new burn sting, for the air felt cold. The smell of burned flesh and fur left a bad taste in his mouth, especially knowing it was his own flesh and fur that was causing that smell. Slowly he pulled back his lip to give a now regular occurring grin to his new packmates. Hopefully none of them held him back.

"So, what happens now?"
